Put არ before the verb to be to say is not, am not or are not.

This is the same არ that makes any verb negative: არ ვიცი (I don't know). Its place is fixed, so keep it next to the verb.

To answer a question with just no, use არა: ნინო აქ არის? არა, აქ არ არის (Is Nino here? No, she isn't). The two words have different jobs: არა stands alone, and არ goes before a verb.

    არ comes right before არის.

  2. მე ექიმი არ ვარ.

    I'm not a doctor.

    არ ვარ: I am not.

  3. ეს ჩემი წიგნი არ არის.

    The rest of the sentence stays the same.

  4. ისინი სახლში არ არიან.

    They aren't at home.

    არ არიან: they are not.

  5. ყავა ცხელი არ არის.

    The coffee isn't hot.

    არ also goes before არის with an adjective.
