Agreement After estas
The adjective matches the subject, even with estas in between.
How It Works
After estas the adjective describes the subject, and it has to match it. A plural subject gets a plural adjective.
| One | More than one |
|---|---|
| La domo estas bela. | La domoj estas belaj. |
| Mi estas feliĉa. | Ni estas feliĉaj. |
| Ana estas juna. | Ana kaj Wei estas junaj. |
The word vi can mean one person or several. The adjective shows which: Vi estas feliĉa speaks to one person, and Vi estas feliĉaj speaks to several. An adjective after estas never takes -n.
A noun after estas usually takes -j too when the subject is plural: Ili estas amikoj. A noun that names the whole group as one thing stays singular: Ni estas familio. The adjective always matches the subject, so check the subject first.
