pri

About

Level 2

Pri means about a topic.

How It Works

SayMeaning
Ni parolas pri la vetero. We talk about the weather.
libro pri Esperantoa book about Esperanto
Ĉu vi pensas pri la kongreso? Are you thinking about the congress?

Pri comes before the topic of talking, writing, reading, thinking or asking. The topic keeps its plain form and takes no -n.

The word also follows verbs of hearing and asking: Mi aŭdis pri la kongreso means that I heard about the congress.

Compare two sentences. Mi parolas Esperanton means that I speak the language, and the language is the object. Mi parolas pri Esperanto means that I talk about it, and Esperanto is only the topic.

Common Mistakes

  • Adding -n to the topic.

    Ni parolas pri la veteron.
    Ni parolas pri la vetero.

Nothing moves and nothing is acted on, so the topic after pri takes no -n.
