به شرطی که
Provided That
در صورتی که means "if" or "in case", and it takes the subjunctive too.
How It Works
| Phrase | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| به شرطی که | provided that | میآیم، به شرطی که وقت داشته باشم. |
| به این شرط که | on this condition | میآیم، به این شرط که وقت داشته باشم. |
| در صورتی که | in case, if | در صورتی که دیر شوی، به من زنگ بزن. |
The condition can come first or last: به شرطی که باران نبارد، فردا به پغمان میرویم. Or: فردا به پغمان میرویم، به شرطی که باران نبارد.
Use the present subjunctive for a condition that is still ahead: به شرطی که وقت داشته باشم. For a condition that must be done first, use the perfect subjunctive: به شرطی که کار را تمام کرده باشی (provided that you have finished the work). For a negative condition, put نـ on the subjunctive: نبارد.
The main clause uses its normal tense: میرویم, میدهم, میتوانی.
اگر also starts a condition. به شرطی که sets a term that someone has to meet, so it goes with promises and permissions: پدرم اجازه داد، به شرطی که قبل از شام برگردیم.
