فردا می‌روم

Plans with the Present Tense

Level 2

The time word shows the plan is in the future, so the verb needs no extra future word.

How It Works

The present tense does two jobs. With no time word it says what happens now or every day. With a time word that looks ahead, it says what you plan to do.

فردا صبحtomorrow morning

Say the plan like any present verb: فردا به بازار می‌روم (I'm going to the market tomorrow). The time word can come first, or after the person: من فردا می‌روم. For a question, end with ؟ and let your voice rise: فردا چه می‌کنی؟

Make a plan negative with نمی‌: فردا نمی‌آیم (I'm not coming tomorrow). The formal future خواهم رفت belongs to careful writing and comes later. In talk and in everyday writing, the present tense is the way to say it.

Examples (5)

  1. فردا به کابل می‌روم.

    I'm going to Kabul tomorrow.

فردا (tomorrow) shows the plan, and می‌روم is the plain present.

  2. امشب مهمان‌ها به خانهٔ ما می‌آیند.

The guests are coming to our house tonight.

امشب (tonight) points ahead, and می‌آیند is the present tense for more than one person.

  3. هفتهٔ آینده با دوستانم به میله می‌رویم.

Next week we're going on a picnic with my friends.

هفتهٔ آینده (next week) is the time phrase, and می‌رویم shows we.

  4. فردا جمعه است، به مکتب نمی‌روم.

Tomorrow is Friday, so I'm not going to school.

نمی‌روم is the negative present, and فردا keeps it in the future.

  5. فردا چه می‌کنی؟

    What are you doing tomorrow?

A friend asks about plans with the same present tense, and the ending ـی shows تو.

Common Mistakes

  • Putting ن after می‌ to make the plan negative.

    فردا به کابل می‌نروم.
    فردا به کابل نمی‌روم.

The negative present starts with نمی‌. The ن comes before می‌ and never after it.
