Today, Yesterday and Tomorrow

To say on that day, no small word goes before them, so امروز stands alone.

How It Works

Time words tell when. Put them at the start of the sentence: امروز هوا گرم است (Today the weather is hot). They can also follow the subject: من امروز در خانه استم.

Say them imrōz, dīrōz and fardā. To say on that day, no small word goes before them. Write امروز, never در امروز.

A time word can also follow a noun and mean of that day: نان دیروز (yesterday's bread), خبر امروز (today's news).

The verb shows the time too. In this lesson, sentences about today and tomorrow use a present form such as است or استم: فردا جمعه است. A sentence about yesterday takes a past verb, which comes in the next lessons.

    و joins two time words, and both open the sentence.
