ja / ti / on / ona / ono / mi / vi / oni / one / ona
Subject Pronouns
Ja and mi refer to the speaker; ti and vi address someone. Third-person forms distinguish masculine, feminine and neuter referents.
How It Works
Use ja for I, ti for informal singular you, mi for we and vi for plural you. Polite singular address also uses vi with plural verb agreement.
Third-person singular on, ona, ono follows the referent’s grammatical gender. This includes things: a knjiga is feminine, so a pronoun referring to it can be ona. Plural oni, one, ona follows the relevant plural agreement pattern.
A subject pronoun is often omitted when the verb and context identify it. When it is present, make the verb agree with it. Object forms such as mene or mi belong to later case patterns; the list here is the nominative subject set.
