tako da / toliko da
Showing a Result
A result clause states what follows from the event or degree in the main clause. It differs from a clause stating an intended purpose.
How It Works
Tako da can introduce the consequence of a whole event. With toliko or a degree expression such as tako umoran, the main clause presents the degree responsible for the result.
Compare a result with purpose. Govorio je glasno tako da su ga svi čuli states that everyone heard him. A purpose construction such as govorio je glasno da bi ga svi čuli describes his aim without by itself guaranteeing success.
The position of tako matters. Učini to tako da... may describe the required manner rather than report an already realized consequence. Read the complete construction and its time reference.
