stoga / prema tome
Drawing a Conclusion
Stoga and prema tome connect a conclusion or consequence to an earlier statement. They are especially useful in formal explanations and organized written argument.
How It Works
Stoga means “therefore” or “for that reason.” It can open a new sentence or follow an initial phrase within the conclusion. The information that supports it should already be clear.
Prema tome often marks an inference: Svi su uvjeti ispunjeni. Prema tome, možemo početi. Here tome points to what has been established, not to a physical direction toward an object.
Keep the direction of reasoning clear. Naime commonly introduces an explanation for a statement already made, whereas stoga introduces what follows from it. A more conversational zato may suit an everyday result; choose the connector to match both the relationship and the register.
