Present Tense for Scheduled Future

Level 2

The present can express a future arrangement when the time and context make it clear.

How It Works

Demà tenim classe uses a present form for a scheduled event. El tren surt a les vuit can describe a timetable or the next planned departure. The time phrase and situation identify the future reference.

This use does not require an extra auxiliary. Keep the ordinary present conjugation and add the relevant future context: divendres sopem junts. Without that context, the same form may instead describe a habit or something happening now.

For a prediction or a less settled future assertion, a future tense may be more suitable: demà plourà. Do not replace every plan with anar a + infinitive; in Catalan that construction has more limited uses than English going to. Choose the form that matches the type of future meaning you intend.
