si + Imperfect Subjunctive
Imperfect Subjunctive in Counterfactual Conditions
Use imperfect subjunctive after si for a remote present or future condition.
How It Works
Si tingués temps, vindria treats having time as a remote or imagined condition. The imperfect subjunctive describes that hypothetical status; it need not locate the condition in the past. The usual consequence has a conditional verb.
A remote present condition need not be factually impossible: si disposéssim de més dades can simply place the possibility at a distance. Compare it with the open si disposem de més dades, which treats obtaining data as a live condition. For a finished missed opportunity, use haguéssim disposat instead. Keep the chosen stance coherent with the main consequence, while allowing a past condition to have a present result when explicitly intended.

- Si disposéssim de més dades, ho podríem comprovar.
If we had more data, we could check it.
- Si fossis aquí, ho entendries.
If you were here, you would understand it.
- Si haguéssim sortit abans, ara ja hi seríem.
If we had left earlier, we would already be there now.
