Complex Prepositions in Academic Linking
Complex prepositions make the relation between claims explicit: source, scope, basis or consequence.
How It Works
D'acord amb introduces a basis or source of conformity; arran de links something to an event or circumstance from which it arose; pel que fa a sets a topic. These phrases serve different logical functions despite all sounding suitable for academic writing.
Their final prepositions keep normal article contractions: d'acord amb les dades, arran de l'estudi, pel que fa al mètode. Do not add an extra preposition because an English paraphrase contains one.
Use a complex phrase only when it expresses the intended relationship more clearly than a simple preposition. Arran de can imply a connection beyond mere chronological after, so avoid it when the evidence establishes only that one event followed another.
