pel que fa a / quant a
Topical Framing Expressions
Quant a and pel que fa a introduce the topic or scope of the statement that follows.
How It Works
Quant al pressupost, no hi ha canvis limits the statement to the budget. Pel que fa als terminis does the same for deadlines. These frames organize a discussion; they do not by themselves assert cause, contrast or consequence.
Both expressions end in a, so ordinary article contractions apply: quant al, quant als, pel que fa al, pel que fa als. With an elided article, keep a l’: quant a l'horari. Do not confuse quant a with the temporal question quan.
An initial frame is commonly followed by a comma. Keep it short enough that the reader can still identify the main clause; excessive topic labels can make a simple message harder to read.
