အကြိုက်ဆုံး means "favourite".

How It Works

To say "the most", Burmese puts အ in front of the describing word and ဆုံး after it.

The group you choose from takes မှာ or ထဲမှာ: မြန်မာနိုင်ငံမှာ အကြီးဆုံးမြို့ (the biggest city in Myanmar), ဒီဆိုင်ထဲမှာ အကောင်းဆုံး (the best in this shop).

The form works in three places. At the end of a sentence it says what is the most. Before a noun it describes the noun. Before a verb it says how: အမြန်ဆုံး လာခဲ့ပါ။ (Come as fast as you can.)

Never add ပို. ပို is for comparing two things with ထက်.

Add ပဲ at the end to stress it: ဒါ အကောင်းဆုံးပဲ။ (This is the very best.)

    အစပ်ဆုံး ends the question before လဲ.

  4. အမြန်ဆုံး လာခဲ့ပါ။

    Come as fast as you can.

    Before a verb, အမြန်ဆုံး says how to come.

  5. အနည်းဆုံး တစ်နာရီ စောင့်ရမယ်။

    We'll have to wait at least an hour.

    အနည်းဆုံး means "at least".

Common Mistakes

  • Adding ပို to "the most".

    ဒါ ပိုကောင်းဆုံးပဲ။
    ဒါ အကောင်းဆုံးပဲ။

    ပို is for comparing two. "The most" uses အ…ဆုံး alone.
