မ…သေးဘူး
Not Yet
It is the usual "no" to a question that ends in ပြီလား: ရောက်ပြီလား။ is answered မရောက်သေးဘူး။
How It Works
မ…သေးဘူး is the negative partner of ပြီ. ပြီ says a change has come. မ…သေးဘူး says it has not come yet, and you still expect it.
| Question | Yes | Not yet |
|---|---|---|
| ရောက်ပြီလား။ | ရောက်ပြီ။ | မရောက်သေးဘူး။ |
| စားပြီးပြီလား။ | စားပြီးပြီ။ | မစားရသေးဘူး။ |
In the second row, ရ adds "had the chance": I haven't had a chance to eat yet. This is the friendly answer to the greeting ထမင်းစားပြီးပြီလား။
Helper words go between the verb and သေး. With ချင်: မသွားချင်သေးဘူး။ (I don't want to go yet.) With ဖူး: ပုဂံကို မရောက်ဖူးသေးဘူး။ (I haven't been to Bagan yet.)
For a polite answer to someone older or a stranger, put ပါ before ဘူး: မပြီးသေးပါဘူး။ (It isn't finished yet.)
မ…တော့ဘူး sounds close, and it means the change has already come: "not anymore".

Common Mistakes
Answering ရောက်ပြီလား (Are you there yet?) with plain မ…ဘူး.
မရောက်ဘူး။မရောက်သေးဘူး။မရောက်ဘူး sounds like "I'm not coming at all". သေး keeps the meaning "yet".
