Locative Singular
The locative singular usually ends in -u or -i.
How It Works
The locative has no use on its own. A preposition always comes first, and it answers the question "where?" or "about what?".
| Gender | Nominative | Locative |
|---|---|---|
| masculine | grad, Mostar | u gradu, u Mostaru |
| neuter | selo | u selu |
| feminine | škola, Tuzla | u školi, u Tuzli |
The usual prepositions are u, na, o, po and pri. The words u and na take the locative to say where something is. They take the accusative to say where something is going, which is a separate entry.
Some feminine nouns change their last consonant: ruka gives u ruci, noga gives na nozi and majka gives o majci. Learn these as you meet them.
