आवा अहै
Has Come: आवा अहै
A past form with अहै says what has happened and still matters now.
How It Works
Verbs like go, come, reach and sit have no object. For their "has done" form, take the past form and add the present of "to be".
| Who | Form |
|---|---|
| ऊ (man) | गवा अहै |
| ऊ (woman) | गई अहै |
| ऊ (several, or respect) | गए अहैं |
The past form agrees with the person, as it does in the plain past: गवा for a man, गई for a woman, गए for several people or one respected person. The helper अहै or अहैं follows the same count.
Compare the plain past, ऊ बजार गवा (he went to the market), with ऊ बजार गवा अहै (he has gone to the market, and he is still there or the news is fresh). Verbs that take an object use the -ए form instead, as in ऊ चीठी लिखे अहै.
A negative puts नाहीं before the past form: ऊ अबहीं नाहीं आवा अहै.
Examples (4)
- ऊ बजार गवा अहै।
He has gone to the market.
गवा अहै shows a man who went and is still away.
- चाचा जी आए अहैं।
Uncle has come.
आए अहैं uses the plural for a respected person.
- सना घरे पहुँचि गई अहै।
Sana has reached home.
गई agrees with Sana, and अहै closes the sentence.
- ऊ लोग स्टेशन पहुँचि गए अहैं।
They have reached the station.
गए अहैं is the plural pair.
Common Mistakes
The past form must agree with the person who went.
नेहा बजार गवा अहै।नेहा बजार गई अहै।Neha is a woman, so the form is गई, not गवा.
