-খন for the Flat Thing
The Flat Thing: -খন
-খন works like “the” for a thing counted with -খন: কিতাপখন “the book” and ঘৰখন “the house”.
How It Works
Nouns that are counted with -খন (এখন কিতাপ) use the same ending when they are definite. They include flat things such as books and maps, and large things such as houses and places.
| Noun | With -খন |
|---|---|
| কিতাপ “book” | কিতাপখন “the book” |
| ঘৰ “house” | ঘৰখন “the house” |
| দুৱাৰ “door” | দুৱাৰখন “the door” |
| মেনু “menu” | মেনুখন “the menu” |
Compare এখন কিতাপ “a book” with কিতাপখন “the book”. The number goes in front of the noun, and the ending goes on its back.
When the noun has an owner word, the ending still goes on the noun: তোমাৰ ঘৰখন “your house”.
Use -খন only for a noun that is counted with -খন. A pen takes -টো (কলমটো) and a man takes -জন.
