এইখন and সেইখন mean “this” and “that” for a thing counted with -খন: সেইখন কিতাপ ইয়াত আছে “that book is here”.

How It Works

এইখন and সেইখন point at the things that are counted with -খন, such as books, houses and maps.

Use	Example
alone	এইখন ৰিনাৰ কিতাপ। “This is Rina’s book.”
before a noun	সেইখন কিতাপ ইয়াত আছে। “That book is here.”

You can say এই কিতাপখন or এইখন কিতাপ. Both mean “this book”.

Big places take it too: এইখন এখন ডাঙৰ হাস্পতাল। “This is a big hospital.”

If you point at a person, use এইজন. A pen or a mango takes এইটো.

The same ending is used when you ask: কোনখন? “which one?”.

সেইখন কিতাপ ইয়াত আছে।
That book is here.
সেইখন stands before the noun কিতাপ.
এইখন ৰিনাৰ কিতাপ।
This is Rina’s book.
এইখন is the subject, and ৰিনাৰ কিতাপ says whose.
এইখন এখন ডাঙৰ হাস্পতাল।
This is a big hospital.
এইখন names the place and এখন counts it.
সেইখন মোৰ ঘৰ।
That is my house.
সেইখন points at a house farther away.
