এখিলা পাত means “a leaf”, and এজাক বৰষুণ means “a shower of rain”.

How It Works

Besides -টা, -জন and -খন, Assamese has counting words that fit one kind of noun.

Counting wordUsed forExample
-খিলাa leaf or a sheetএখিলা পাত “a leaf”
-জাকa shower, a flock, a groupএজাক বৰষুণ “a shower of rain”
-পাটa long thin thing such as an arrowএপাট কাঁড় “an arrow”

-জাক can also join the noun and make it definite, “the shower” or “the gust”: বৰষুণজাক, বতাহজাক, in the way -খন joins কিতাপ in কিতাপখন “the book”. Writers use -পাট for an arrow, a spear or an oar (এপাট তীৰ, এপাট বৰ্শা, বঁঠা এপাট) and for a gold bracelet (এপাট সোণৰ মুঠিখাৰু).
