sari
Toward (Literary)
Noun + sari = toward it: Karvon togʻlar sari yoʻl oldi (The caravan set off toward the mountains).
How It Works
After the noun. Put sari after a plain noun, or after a noun with a possessive ending:
- shahar sari (toward the city)
- uyi sari (toward his home)
- yorugʻlik sari (toward the light)
- oldinga sari (onward), with -ga
Real and figurative. Sari can describe a trip, and it can describe striving toward a goal: yangi gʻalabalar sari (toward new victories), kelajak sari (toward the future). Verbs such as yoʻl olmoq (to set off), intilmoq (to strive) and uchmoq (to fly) often go with it.
Everyday words. In ordinary speech, use tomon or -ga qarab: shahar tomon yurdik (we walked toward the city), uyga qarab ketdi (he headed home).
After -gan it means something else. After a verb in -gan, sari means the more or as time goes on: see -gan sari, as in Vaqt oʻtgan sari, osonlashadi (As time goes by, it gets easier). The set phrase borgan sari means more and more.

Using sari for the place where something happens (meant: I work at the school).
Men maktab sari ishlayman.Men maktabda ishlayman.Sari shows movement or striving toward something. For the place where something happens, use -da.
