-oq / -yoq
Right, Already: -oq
Word + -oq / -yoq = right, already, the very: hoziroq (right now), ertalaboq (first thing in the morning), boshidayoq (right from the start).
How It Works
1. Form and spelling
- after a consonant, -oq: hozir → hoziroq, bugun → bugunoq, ertalab → ertalaboq
- after a vowel, -yoq: boshida → boshidayoq, oʻzi → oʻziyoq, kuni → kuniyoq
The official spelling rules write it joined to the word, like -mi and -gina.
2. Right then, already
On time words and case forms, -oq stresses how soon something happens:
- Hoziroq keling! (Come right now!)
- Xatni bugunoq yubordim. (I sent the letter this very day.)
- Birinchi kuniyoq doʻst boʻlib qoldik. (We became friends on the very first day.)
- Filmning boshidayoq oxirini taxmin qildim. (I guessed the ending right at the start of the film.)
3. The moment that
With As Soon As, -oq makes the timing even tighter: Uyga kelishi bilanoq uxlab qoldi. (She fell asleep the moment she got home.) It can also join the -(i)b form from Linking Actions With -(i)b: keliboq (right after arriving).
4. Compare
Already says that something has already happened. -oq points at the exact moment and stresses how early it is. Only, Just: -gina is also written joined, but it limits a word instead of stressing its timing.

- Xatni bugunoq yubordim.
I sent the letter this very day.
- Birinchi kuniyoq doʻst boʻlib qoldik.
We became friends on the very first day.
Kuni ends in a vowel, so the particle is -yoq.
- Uyga kelishi bilanoq uxlab qoldi.
She fell asleep the moment she got home.
Bilan + oq tightens as soon as into the very moment.
- Filmning boshidayoq oxirini taxmin qildim.
I guessed the ending right at the start of the film.
