allaqachon
Already
Allaqachon means already: U allaqachon ketgan (He has already left).
How It Works
Allaqachon tells you that an action is finished and done: already. Dictionaries also give it the meaning long ago, a good while back, which you will often meet in books.
Which verb forms? Because allaqachon talks about something that has happened, it goes with past forms:
- -gan for a result that still matters now: U allaqachon ketgan (He has already left).
- -di for a plain past event: Allaqachon tushundim (I already understood).
- -gan edi for "had already": Biz kelganimizda, poyezd allaqachon ketgan edi (When we arrived, the train had already left).
With helper verbs. It often pairs with -(i)b boʻlmoq, which also stresses that something is finished: Men allaqachon ovqatlanib boʻldim (I have already eaten).
Already vs not yet. Allaqachon is only for things that have happened. For "not yet", use hali with -gani yoʻq: U hali kelgani yoʻq (He hasn't come yet).
Related words. Endi means "now" after a change. The particle -oq stresses "right away": Keliboq ishga kirishdi (He got to work as soon as he arrived).
