Using an Infinitive as an Instruction
کل وقت پر آنا۔ → Come on time tomorrow.
How It Works
An infinitive ending in -نا can stand as a complete instruction. Time phrases often make it a reminder about a later action.
The instruction does not change its ending to match the listener’s gender. It can sound familiar or direct, so choose the respectful imperative when that better suits the relationship.
مت or نہ can make it negative. Do not confuse a standalone instruction with a noun-like infinitive inside a longer sentence.
Examples (4)
- کل اپنی کاپی ساتھ لانا۔
Bring your notebook tomorrow.
لانا is a reminder, not a description of bringing.
- مریم، وہاں پہنچ کر فون کرنا۔
Maryam, call when you get there.
کرنا stays unchanged with a female addressee.
- واپس آتے ہوئے دودھ لینا۔
Get some milk on the way back.
The infinitive gives an instruction tied to a later event.
- آج رات بہت دیر تک نہ جاگنا۔
Do not stay up very late tonight.
نہ makes the familiar instruction negative.
