کو + معلوم / پتا ہونا
Knowing a Fact
Describe someone’s knowledge, not acquaintance with a person.
How It Works
The person uses مجھے, ہمیں or a noun phrase with کو. Do not choose ہوں solely because the English translation starts with I.
Negation denies having the information: مجھے معلوم نہیں. Use this when the person does not have the information.
For acquaintance with a person, use a suitable form of جاننا. These معلوم/پتا frames are useful for facts, locations and other information.

The following clause identifies the information.

Bilal knows when the shop will open.
The embedded question concerns a future time.
- ہمیں پتا نہیں کہ وہ کہاں گئے۔
We do not know where they went.
Negation applies to the knowledge claim.
- کیا آپ کو معلوم ہے کہ یہ راستہ کہاں جاتا ہے؟
Do you know where this route leads?
The question asks whether the listener has the information.
