کو + بھوک / پیاس لگنا
Feeling Hunger and Thirst
In this pattern, the feeling is named with a noun such as بھوک or پیاس.
How It Works
The same phrase works for a masculine or feminine experiencer. Compare بلال کو and مریم کو without changing لگی for پیاس.
A habitual form describes a recurring feeling: بھوک لگتی ہے. A past form describes the experience at an earlier point.
Do not read لگنا as one fixed English verb in every expression. With these nouns it describes an experience; with an oblique infinitive it can instead mark the start of an activity.
Examples (4)
- بلال کو پیاس لگی ہے۔
Bilal is thirsty.
Feminine پیاس controls لگی.
- مریم کو بھوک لگی ہے۔
Maryam is hungry.
Feminine بھوک controls لگی.
- ہمیں شام کو بھوک لگتی ہے۔
We get hungry in the evening.
لگتی ہے presents a recurring experience.

The plural experiencers do not force plural agreement on پیاس.
