کیوں
Asking Why
Use کیوں when you want the reason something happens or is true. The tone can make the same question sound curious or challenging.
How It Works
دکان آج کیوں بند ہے؟ asks for the reason the shop is closed today. The question word comes before the description and form of “to be”.
With an action, بچہ کیوں رو رہا ہے؟ asks why the child is crying. Read رو رہا ہے together as the ongoing action.
A negative question can ask why something is not happening: ندا آج کیوں نہیں آ رہی ہے؟. Keep نہیں with the negative verbal group.
A question about a person's choices can sound like a challenge, especially with strong emphasis. When you want an explanation, use a tone suited to that intention.
