How It Works

The relevant group need not be every person or thing in the world. A conversation about guests can use سب for all those guests.

سب does not change for a feminine noun. The rest of the sentence still agrees: سب کھڑکیاں کھلی ہیں has feminine کھڑکیاں and کھلی.

Use phrases such as سب سے or سب کو without adding an oblique plural ending to سب itself. Their meaning depends on the surrounding verb.

سب کھڑکیاں کھلی ہیں۔
All the windows are open.
سب is unchanged with feminine plural کھڑکیاں.
سب دروازے بند ہیں۔
All the doors are closed.
The noun identifies the complete group.
میں نے سب کو پیغام بھیجا۔
I sent a message to everyone.
سب stays unchanged before کو.
ہم نے سب سے بات کی۔
We spoke with everyone.
Here سب سے names the people spoken with, not a superlative.
