How It Works

The ending depends on the noun, not on the person speaking. Feminine singular and plural use ساری; masculine singular uses سارا in direct case.

A masculine noun before a postposition can select سارے even when singular. In سارے کمرے میں, the meaning can be throughout the whole room.

For a countable group, context determines which members make up the whole. This is not a claim about every possible member everywhere.

    Masculine پانی selects سارا.

  3. سارے دروازے کھلے ہیں۔

  4. سارے کمرے میں دھواں تھا۔
