ปล่อยให้
Letting with ปล่อยให้
The displayed examples use ปล่อยให้ + person/thing + action/state. อย่าปล่อยให้เขารอ means “Don’t leave him waiting.”
How It Works
1. Read The Following Action Or State
In อย่าปล่อยให้เขารอ, เขา is the person and รอ is waiting. In อย่าปล่อยให้บ้านรก, บ้าน is the house and รก describes it as untidy. The omitted addressee is understood from the request. Compare serial verb examples for other verb combinations; that comparison does not establish a history or a fixed component-by-component translation for ปล่อยให้.
2. Keep The Context Visible
เขาปล่อยให้ผมยาว is read here as letting hair grow long. ผม refers to hair in this reading, and “[his]” supplies an inferred possessor. The clause does not say that he stopped cutting it. In ปล่อยให้มันเป็นไปตามธรรมชาติ, เป็นไป describes how something proceeds; it is not a separate instruction to physically go. The mother-and-child example permits a playing activity, without proving her attitude or how she gave permission.
3. Compare The Requested Forms
The first exercise requests forgetting keys at home, so it uses ลืม. Compare ไว้ in the retained location phrase. The second requests the complete ปล่อยให้ waiting sentence, while อย่าให้เขารอ can also express a request not to have him wait. The third requests consent with ยอมให้. These choices do not make ปล่อยให้ unsuitable for every permission context or prove indifference.
4. Read The Whole Utterance
The house and waiting requests describe situations to avoid. They do not automatically accuse anyone of neglect. Follow these displayed constructions without inferring universal word order, register, frequency, pronunciation, or an obligatory passive attitude.
Examples (5)
- อย่าปล่อยให้เขารอ
Don’t leave him waiting.
Word by Word: do not | let | him | wait
อย่า makes this a request not to leave him waiting. The addressee is omitted; the sentence does not state why he would be waiting.
- เขาปล่อยให้ผมยาว
He let [his] hair grow long.
Word by Word: he | let | hair | be long
ผม is read as hair here. “[His]” is inferred from the selected context, and the past-tense English is a chosen reading. The native clause does not explicitly state a possessor, a time, or that he stopped cutting his hair.
- ปล่อยให้มันเป็นไปตามธรรมชาติ
Let it take its natural course.
Word by Word: let | it | proceed | according to | nature
เป็นไป describes proceeding or unfolding in this phrase, and ตามธรรมชาติ supplies the natural-course reading. The sentence does not guarantee an outcome or establish a philosophical or frequency claim.
- แม่ปล่อยให้ลูกเล่นในสวน
The mother let the child play in the garden.
Word by Word: mother | let | child | play | in | garden
แม่ lets ลูก play in the garden in this selected reading. The English past tense is contextual; the Thai clause does not itself specify a past time or whether permission was spoken.
- อย่าปล่อยให้บ้านรก
Don’t leave the house untidy.
Word by Word: do not | let | house | be untidy
บ้าน is the thing whose untidy state is to be avoided. The request does not by itself prove neglect or name the person responsible.
Common Mistakes
Using A Letting Construction For The Requested Forgetting Context.
ฉันปล่อยให้กุญแจไว้ที่บ้านฉันลืมกุญแจไว้ที่บ้านThe task asks for “I forgot my keys at home,” so choose ฉันลืมกุญแจไว้ที่บ้าน. The second retained string uses ปล่อยให้ instead of ลืม and does not supply that forgetting meaning. This does not ban ปล่อยให้ with physical objects in other contexts.
Omitting ปล่อย From The Requested ปล่อยให้ Sentence.
อย่าให้เขารออย่าปล่อยให้เขารอThis exercise requests อย่าปล่อยให้เขารอ with the complete ปล่อยให้ expression. อย่าให้เขารอ can also express not having him wait, but it does not contain the requested expression. Compare ให้ without inferring a universal command-versus-permission distinction.
Using ปล่อยให้ When The Task Requests Consent With ยอมให้.
เขาปล่อยให้ฉันไปปาร์ตี้เขายอมให้ฉันไปปาร์ตี้The task requests consent expressed with ยอมให้, so choose เขายอมให้ฉันไปปาร์ตี้. เขาปล่อยให้ฉันไปปาร์ตี้ can describe letting me go to the party in another context; it does not automatically prove that he did not care.
