The Passive With a Participle
Biti plus a passive participle can describe a passive event or resulting state.
How It Works
Biti plus a passive participle can describe a passive event or resulting state. The participle agrees with its subject; a phrase introduced by od is possible for an agent but is not always needed or stylistically preferred.
Vrata so zaprta describes the state of the door; vrata is grammatically plural, so so and zaprta agree with it. Bila prevedena adds past tense to a feminine singular book. Not every biti + adjective sentence describes a passive action.

- Vrata so zaprta.

- Knjiga je bila prevedena.
The book was translated.
