Three Noun Genders
Slovenian nouns have masculine, feminine or neuter gender.
How It Works
Slovenian nouns have masculine, feminine or neuter gender. Endings are clues rather than a universal rule: many feminine nouns end in -a, but noč is feminine and oče is masculine.
Learn a noun with an agreeing word: moj telefon, moja noč, moje mesto. This makes gender visible when spelling is misleading. Grammatical gender belongs to the noun, while a person's natural gender can matter in agreement with nouns such as kolega.
