How It Works

Give an asserted reason. نرفتم چون خسته بودم reports not going and explains it with past tiredness. Both facts have past predicates, but one serves as the explanation of the other.

Move the reason as a unit. چون خسته بودم، نرفتم begins with the same reason and reaches the result afterward. Keep چون خسته بودم together instead of treating چون as a word that belongs to the main verb.

Recognize written explanation. جلسه لغو شد، زیرا مدیر بیمار بود is suitable in a written account. زیرا does not make the statement more certain; it changes the phrasing and register of the explanation.

Read other چون uses in their setting. Older literary texts can use چون in a temporal sense. A cause and a time relation are different claims; choose the reading from the sentence and genre, rather than replacing every چون with because.
