گفته است ↔ گفته بوده است. Read time and information source from the report.

How It Works

The longer structure. گفته بوده است contains گفته, then بوده, then است. It is not the ordinary past perfect گفته بود. A report can use the longer form to present a saying as earlier than another reported past event.

Keep the source explicit. طبق گزارش، مدیر قبلاً هشدار داده بوده است attributes the account to a report. The phrase طبق گزارش supplies that attribution; it is not safe to infer an absent witness merely from the auxiliary.

A repeated past report. می‌گویند در آن سال‌ها اینجا زندگی می‌کرده است presents a reported earlier ongoing situation. The می‌ form contributes imperfective aspect, and می‌گویند identifies the reporting frame.

Writing and everyday Iranian speech. Formal prose may preserve است, while conversation often shortens a third-person report form to گفته بوده. Read the whole account, and translate its chronology naturally rather than match each auxiliary to one English tense.

  1. طبق گزارش، مدیر قبلاً هشدار داده بوده است.

    According to the report, the manager had given a warning earlier.

  2. می‌گویند در آن سال‌ها اینجا زندگی می‌کرده است.

    They say that they used to live here in those years.

    The reported person is not grammatically gendered; context identifies them.

  3. این نویسنده چند کتاب نوشته است.

    This writer has written several books.

    A present perfect by itself does not identify the writer’s evidence source.

  4. می‌گن قبلاً این رو گفته بوده.

    They say they had said this before.

    Everyday Iranian dialogue: می‌گن and رو are spoken forms, and است is reduced away.
