alavetz
Then
Alavetz points to the moment you just described, and it is common in stories.
How It Works
| Occitan | English |
|---|---|
| Alavetz, sortiguèt. | Then he went out. |
| Es alavetz que Maria arribèt. | It was then that Maria arrived. |
| Alavetz, demorem aquí. | So let's stay here. |
| Dempuèi alavetz, demòri a Tolosa. | Since then, I have lived in Toulouse. |
Tales use alavetz to move the story on: the narrator tells one event, and alavetz brings the next one. The verb is usually in the simple past.
Write it alavetz, with tz at the end. The French alors is not Occitan.
Modern prose and speech also use alavetz for so or in that case, with any tense. Donc and doncas give a result too. For a later step in a list, use puèi or aprèp.
