lo mieu, la mieuna
Mine, Yours, His and Hers
To say mine, yours or his, put an article before mieu, tieu or sieu and match it to the thing owned.
How It Works
| Owner | masculine singular | feminine singular | masculine plural | feminine plural |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| mine | lo mieu | la mieuna | los mieus | las mieunas |
| yours (tu) | lo tieu | la tieuna | los tieus | las tieunas |
| his, hers | lo sieu | la sieuna | los sieus | las sieunas |
| ours | lo nòstre | la nòstra | los nòstres | las nòstras |
| yours (vos) | lo vòstre | la vòstra | los vòstres | las vòstras |
Use these words when no noun follows: Aquel libre es lo mieu. When a noun follows, use the short forms: mon libre.
Writers also spell the stem with eu: lo meu, la meuna, lo teu, lo seu. Laus gives these first, and print uses them more often. Both spellings are correct, and this course writes mieu, mieuna, the forms of Lagarde and of the Congrès's Basic. You may also meet the short feminines mia, tia, sia before a noun, mostly in one author's tales. Basic lists mia as the Gascon form for mine, so this course does not use it.
After es the article can be left out: Aquel gat es mieu.
