-न मन लाग्छ

Feeling Like Doing Something

Level 2Sounds Like na mana lāgcha

मन लाग्छ after a -न verb means to feel like doing something.

How It Works

To say you feel like doing something, use a -न verb and then मन लाग्छ. The person takes लाई: मलाई चिया पिउन मन लाग्छ (I feel like having tea).

The -न verb is the infinitive: पिउन, घुम्न, सुत्न, खान. After it comes मन लाग्छ, which does not change: उनलाई सुत्न मन लाग्छ (she feels like sleeping), तिमीलाई के गर्न मन लाग्छ? (what do you feel like doing?).

For not wanting to, the usual way is the negative of लाग्नु: मलाई केही खान मन लागेन (I did not feel like eating anything) and मलाई आज जान मन लाग्दैन (I do not feel like going today).

This differs from मन पर्छ. मन पर्छ tells that you like a thing, and मन लाग्छ tells that you feel like doing something: मलाई चिया मन पर्छ means I like tea.

Do not forget लाई on the person. This is the pattern to learn first.
