त्याला / तिला / त्यांना

Him, Her and Them with -ला

Level 2Sounds Like tyālā / tilā / tyānnā

With a respected person, the plural त्यांना is used: त्यांना नमस्कार करा.

How It Works

PronounWith -लाMeaning
तोत्यालाhim
तीतिलाher
तेत्यांनाthem
ते (one neuter thing)त्यालाit

The first and second persons have special -ला forms too: मी becomes मला, तू becomes तुला, आम्ही becomes आम्हाला, and तुम्ही becomes तुम्हाला.

Spell तिला with a short ि. The long vowel appears in the pronoun ती, but it shortens before -ला.

A respected person is also त्यांना: आजी आल्या आहेत. त्यांना चहा द्या. (Grandma has come. Give her tea.) The plural form is used for one person to show respect.

Use the same forms for the object after any verb that takes -ला: त्याला पाहणे, तिला सांगणे, त्यांना भेटणे.

Standard Marathi uses मला for to me. मला, तुला, आम्हाला and तुम्हाला are special -ला forms of the other pronouns.

  • Writing तिला with a long ी.

    तू तीला भेटलीस का?
