संग

With Someone

Level 2Sounds Like saṅga

संग means together with, usually a person.

How It Works

WithExample
a nounसंगी संग (with a friend)
a pronounहमरा संग, ओकरा संग, हुनका संग
a possessive nounरामक संग (with Ram)

Pronouns usually take their object forms before संग, so you say हमरा संग (with me), never हम संग. अहाँक संग is also correct.

संग is mostly for people. For a tool or a means, use सँ: कलम सँ लिखू (Write with a pen). The two words are different in Maithili even though English uses "with" for both.

The word संगी (friend) and the postposition संग look alike, but संगी is a noun.

Common Mistakes

  • Using संग for a tool.

    कलम संग लिखू।
    कलम सँ लिखू।

For the tool you use, Maithili says सँ, not संग.
