जकाँ
Like or as
जकाँ means "like" and comes after the thing compared.
How It Works
जकाँ is a postposition, so it follows the noun. It is written as a separate word with the chandrabindu.
| Comparison | Example |
|---|---|
| noun + जकाँ | माय जकाँ |
| noun + जकाँ | चिड़ै जकाँ |
| pronoun + जकाँ | अहाँ जकाँ |
| noun + जकाँ | बर्फ जकाँ ठंढा |
It can describe an action (गबैत छथि) or a state (ठंढा अछि). ई घर महल जकाँ लगैत अछि says the house looks like a palace.
For comparing two clauses (just as ... so), use जेना ... तेना instead. जकाँ compares one thing with another.
Hindi says "की तरह" or "जैसे". Maithili uses जकाँ for both.
