やねん

Kansai: Explaining a Noun Predicate

Level 2Sounds Like yanenRegional Speech

Nouns and na-adjectives use やねん when giving a casual explanation in Kansai speech.

How It Works

明日は休みやねん gives a day off as relevant background. この店が好きやねん explains a preference; 好き is a na-adjective here.

Choose the construction from the predicate type, not from how regional you want the line to sound. やねん is not an ending to append indiscriminately to Japanese words.

Formal writing and respectful speech can retain their shared forms. Explanatory force should serve the actual conversation, including serious or ordinary topics.
