ねん
Kansai: Explaining a Situation
Add ねん to a casual verb or i-adjective predicate to explain a situation in Kansai speech.
How It Works
今から出かけるねん explains what is happening. 今日は忙しいねん explains a state. Do not insert や between an ordinary verb or i-adjective and ねん.
Negative predicates can also carry explanatory force. Past explanations have their own regional shapes and contractions; do not blindly append ねん to every -た form. The meaning comes from the conversation, so it is not simply a generic equivalent of English because.
The examples are familiar speech. Preserve polite explanations for settings requiring them, and do not force an explanatory ending onto every neutral sentence.
