თითო/ორ-ორი

One Each and Two at a Time

Level 4Sounds Like tito/or-ori

თითო means one each, and a doubled number means that many each: ორ-ორი (two each).

How It Works

თითო (tito) means one each. It shares something out:

  • დედამ ბავშვებს თითო ვაშლი მისცა. (Mom gave the children an apple each.)

For two, three or more each, say the number twice with a hyphen. The first part loses its final -ი:

NumberEach
ორი (two)ორ-ორი (two each)
სამი (three)სამ-სამი (three each)

The second part changes like an ordinary number: სტუმრებმა ორ-ორი ჭიქა ჩაი დალიეს (the guests drank two cups of tea each).

The noun after თითო and the doubled numbers stays singular, as after every number.

Two look-alikes mean something else. თითოეული means each one: თითოეულ ბავშვს საჩუქარი აქვს (each child has a present). ერთ-ერთი means one of: ჩემი ერთ-ერთი მეგობარი (one of my friends).
