Preverbs That Change Meaning
With some verbs, a different preverb gives a different meaning, not only a finished action.
How It Works
| Preverb + root | Meaning |
|---|---|
| დაწერს | will write |
| გადაწერს | will copy, will rewrite |
| ჩაწერს | will write down, will record |
| აღწერს | will describe |
| გააკეთებს | will do, will make |
| შეაკეთებს | will repair |
| დადებს | will put down |
| გადადებს | will put off |
Many preverbs keep a bit of their direction: გადა- (over) gives copying a text over, and ჩა- (down, in) gives writing something down.
A preverb that only finishes the action is gone in the present: ვწერ (I write), დავწერ (I will write). A preverb that changes the meaning often stays in the present too, so look up the whole verb with its preverb.
