ნეტავ
I Wonder
ნეტავ means I wonder in a question and I hope or if only in a wish.
How It Works
ნეტავ (net'av, also ნეტა) has two jobs.
I wonder. Put it before a question to think aloud:
- ნეტავ სად არის ჩემი გასაღები? (I wonder where my key is.)
- ნეტავ რას აკეთებს ახლა ნინო? (I wonder what Nino is doing now.)
I hope, if only. With the optative, it makes a wish about something that may still happen:
- ნეტავ ხვალ არ იწვიმოს. (I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow.)
- ნეტავ მალე დადგეს ზაფხული! (If only summer would come soon!)
A short, friendly ნეტავ შენ! means Lucky you!
A wish about the past, such as if only I had known, uses ნეტავ with the pluperfect. That comes at Level 6.
