How It Works
| Word | Meaning | Note |
|---|---|---|
| samideano | fellow Esperantist | built from sama ideo (same idea) and -an- |
| krokodili | to speak a language other than Esperanto at an Esperanto event | a playful verb from krokodilo |
| Pasporta Servo | the host network | a list of hosts who welcome travelers |
| Zamenhof-tago | Zamenhof Day, 15 December | also written Zamenhofa Tago |
A samideano is a member of the same idea, so some Esperantists call each other by this word. Krokodili is a playful verb for a common habit: at an Esperanto event people try to keep to Esperanto, so you may hear Ne krokodilu! The Vikipedio notes that the habit is usually considered something to avoid.
The host network Pasporta Servo is a list of Esperanto speakers around the world who offer a bed to travelers who also speak Esperanto. Zamenhof-tago is the birthday of the creator of the language, who was born in 1859.
Capital letters mark the two proper names, Pasporta Servo and Zamenhof-tago. The ordinary words samideano and krokodili are written with a small letter.
