-ad-
-ad-: Keep Doing
-ad- turns an action into one that goes on.
How It Works
| Verb | With -ad- | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| paroli | paroladi | to keep talking |
| viziti | vizitadi | to visit again and again |
| danci | dancadi | to keep dancing |
| labori | laborado | the activity of working |
| pensi | pensado | thinking |
The ending after -ad- gives the word type: paroladi is a verb and laborado is a noun. With a verb ending, -ad- stresses that the action goes on or comes back. The plain verb is often enough, so use -ad- only when the length or the repeating matters.
With a noun, -ad- picks out the action. Danco can be a dance, but dancado is the activity of dancing.
