Re-: Again or Back

Level 3

re- adds the idea of again or back to a verb.

How It Works

VerbWith re-Meaning
iri (go)reirigo back
veni (come)revenicome back
legi (read)relegiread again
doni (give)redonigive back

Choose the meaning that fits the verb: reveni is a return, relegi is a repeat. The prefix goes with words that name an action, which is why revido (seeing again) works too. You know it from ĝis revido.

The prefix does not change whether the verb has an object: reveni has none, and relegi takes one, so Mi relegas la leteron keeps its -n.

The prefix goes at the very front, and the verb ending stays the same: reveni, revenas, revenis.
