A word with -aĵ- is a noun for a thing, usually one you can point to: manĝaĵoj (foods), novaĵon (a piece of news, as an object). Many such words have a special meaning. A dolĉaĵo is a candy or a dessert.

For an idea, such as beauty, use -ec- instead. The thing is belaĵo, and the quality is beleco.

Ni aĉetas dolĉaĵon por la infanoj.

The ending -ec- names a quality, so this sentence says that you buy sweetness. For sweets that you can buy, use -aĵ-: dolĉaĵon.
