السلام علیکم is the respectful hello, and the answer is و علیکم السلام.
How It Works
Every talk starts with a greeting and ends with a goodbye. Add the name of the person, with جان for a friend or a title for an elder: سلام، احمد جان and السلام علیکم، داکتر صاحب.
